Claude double-usage promotion during non peak hours: March 13–27, 2026

Anthropic is running a two-week promotion that doubles your Claude usage limits during off-peak hours. It started March 13 and runs through March 27.

The catch: “off-peak” means anything outside 5 AM to 11 AM Pacific (8 AM to 2 PM Eastern) on weekdays. So if you’re a night owl, early riser, or based anywhere west of the Eastern time zone, you’re already getting the bonus without changing your routine. If you do most of your work between 8 and 2 ET, this does nothing for you.

The promotion covers Free, Pro, Max, and Team plans. Enterprise is excluded. It applies across Claude’s web and desktop apps, Claude Code, Cowork, and the Excel and PowerPoint integrations. No signup required; it kicks in automatically.

A few details worth noting. The bonus usage during off-peak hours doesn’t count against your weekly limits. So this isn’t a “use it now, pay for it later” situation. Once March 27 hits, everything goes back to normal rates at all hours.

Quick take on the timeframe. The 8 AM to 2 PM ET blackout window isn’t arbitrary. That’s the heart of the US knowledge-worker day, when the bulk of Claude’s traffic hits. After Anthropic refused to remove safety guardrails for the Department of Defense and got listed as a “supply chain risk,” a wave of users left ChatGPT for Claude. The app hit #1 on the App Store for the first time. That influx put real strain on peak-hour infrastructure. So the promotion is doing two things at once: it’s a retention play to keep new users from bouncing when they hit Claude’s notoriously tight caps, and it’s load balancing disguised as generosity. Shift demand to hours when GPUs are sitting idle, and the servers breathe easier during the morning crush.

It’s also worth noting that 8 AM to 2 PM ET overlaps almost perfectly with US equity market hours (pre-market through early afternoon trading). Anthropic has been making an aggressive push into financial services lately. Goldman Sachs is co-developing AI agents with Anthropic for trade accounting and client onboarding. Claude for Excel now pulls live data from S&P Global, FactSet, PitchBook, and others directly into spreadsheets. Cowork shipped finance-specific plugins for equity research, private equity, and wealth management in February. If a significant chunk of peak-hour load is coming from analysts running DCFs, screening deals, and synthesizing research across million-token context windows, that would explain why the blackout window maps so neatly to Wall Street’s morning.

This is the second time Anthropic has run this kind of promo. They did a similar one over Christmas 2025, but that was just one week, paid plans only. This time it’s two weeks and includes free-tier users, which tells you something about how aggressively they want to convert the recent signups into long-term users.

For Claude Code users in particular, this could be meaningful. Heavy agentic coding sessions burn through limits fast, and getting 2x capacity during evening or weekend sessions is a real quality-of-life improvement. If you’ve been queuing up big refactors or long research sessions, the next ten days are a good window.
