About Brooklyn Skills
Brooklyn Skills is an MIT-licensed, open-source collection of portable SKILL.md packages created by Brooklyn Nicholson and hosted on GitHub. Each skill is a self-contained directory that coding agents can copy and invoke on demand, with no harness-specific commands, hooks, adapters, or setup scripts required.
What It Is
Brooklyn Skills is a skill registry for coding agents — a curated set of reusable workflow packages that agents can load and execute by name. Rather than tying workflows to a specific agent platform, each skill lives in a skills/<name>/ directory as a complete unit, making it portable across Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Hermes Agent, and any other agent harness that supports instruction files. The project also ships a defaults.md file intended to be always loaded as baseline agent behavior.
How Skills Are Invoked
Skills are matched by the description inside each SKILL.md file, so agents respond to natural language, slash commands, or bare names interchangeably. The README gives examples like /clean, clean, and "clean it up" all resolving to the same skill. Chaining multiple skills in one message is described as the normal usage pattern — for example, please /clean your work and then /pr-update. A handful of skills pair so frequently that defaults.md runs them automatically without explicit invocation.
Harness Compatibility and Setup
The repository is designed to be harness-agnostic. The general install path is to give the agent the repository URL and ask it to copy the relevant skills/<name>/ directories to wherever the harness expects them. For Hermes Agent specifically, the README describes a zero-copy path: clone the repo, point the ~/.hermes/config.yaml at the skills/ directory, and use git pull as the update mechanism — every skill then appears as a slash command automatically. The defaults.md file can be appended to ~/.hermes/SOUL.md, AGENTS.md (for Claude Code, Codex, and similar agents), or ~/.cursor/rules/defaults.mdc with alwaysApply: true for Cursor.
Included Skills and Workflows
The repository's skills/ directory contains packages covering tasks such as PR triage (pr-triage), PR readiness checks (pr-ready), code cleanup (clean), CI babysitting (babysit), audit-only analysis, UI-only work, visual verification, research, and open work listing. Personal setup notes for git worktree cleanup, scheduled pruning, and disk management are kept separately in the linked BB Workflows gist rather than in the main repository.
Current Status
The repository was created in July 2026 and last pushed in September 2026, indicating active development. The project has accumulated 196 stars and 6 forks on GitHub with zero open issues as of the last recorded update. It is licensed under the MIT License.
