    About Code Storage

Code Storage is a distributed storage system built on Git, made by The Pierre Computer Company, Inc. It lets applications and AI agents create repositories, write commits, and store generated code, memory files and other artifacts through SDKs, a CLI, an HTTP API, or standard Git over HTTPS. OpenAI announced plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., subject to customary closing conditions.

    What It Is

Code Storage is a programmable Git storage layer rather than a standalone Git host. Products can expose native Git clone, push and fetch endpoints inside their own apps, and read or write repositories through SDKs in TypeScript, Python and Go. The docs describe API ergonomics optimized for agents and machines.

    How It Works

The vendor says it uses Git's three-phase commit protocol and a quorum-based architecture to keep reads and writes durable and consistent. Documented workflows include creating isolated refs for previews, CI artifacts and experiments, bulk-importing existing repositories, and syncing repositories from GitHub and other hosts. Users can also stream files, grep codebases and select globs. Webhooks support integration with build systems, bots and AI agents. Documented agent use cases include saving agent memory files, capturing intermediate agent state, showing live diffs and running parallel attempts.

    Security and Reliability

The homepage lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, audit logs, access controls, per-tenant deployments and encryption, and annual third-party penetration tests. It also states a 99.99% SLA, transparent failover and zero-downtime migrations.

    Current Status: OpenAI Acquisition

OpenAI's announcement says it will acquire Pierre, the company behind Code Storage and open-source tools such as Trees and Diffs used in the Codex app. It states that customers can continue using Code Storage after closing while its functionality is brought into Codex, and that Pierre's open-source projects will remain open source. Until closing, the two companies remain separate.
