About danwo
danwo (dánwò) is an open-source end-to-end testing framework from Carbonme Inc for web and mobile apps. Tests are written in TypeScript with a Playwright-shaped API, drive the UI in a browser, on Android or on iOS, and can optionally check what happened behind the screen.
What It Is
A test opens your app, clicks and types like a user, and checks what the screen shows, using locators or plain-English agent steps. Agent steps need a model and API key on the first run; danwo records the resulting choices and later runs replay them with no model call. Screenshot comparison against a baseline image is also supported.
The project describes this UI layer as a complete setup on its own, and every run leaves a flight record with video, steps and the calls behind them.
The backend layer
For apps that take payments, send email or handle webhooks, danwo starts the app behind an egress proxy that answers real provider hostnames with local emulators, so no sandbox keys or app code changes are needed. The docs name Stripe, Clerk, Resend, Google and Slack among about twenty more; the homepage cites 22 providers.
An invariant is a rule that must hold however a test went, such as one charge and one email. The fault matrix replays a test once per planned fault, such as declines, 500s, timeouts, duplicate or forged webhooks, double-submits, Postgres and Redis faults and time travel, and the invariant judges each run.
Workflow and integrations
Setup starts with npx @danwo/cli init, which writes a config and a first test and can set up coding agents. A skill and MCP server are provided for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Copilot. CI support includes a GitHub Check and pull request comment, shards and JUnit output. Existing suites can be added to Playwright Test or moved over from Cypress or Detox.
Current Status
The README says danwo is early and APIs will change. A hosted danwo Cloud is described as not yet open; the self-hosted engine is available today under Apache-2.0.
