omgskills

omgskills is a free macOS menu-bar app and public web library for discovering agent skills for Claude and Codex. The homepage says it indexes 49,000+ skills from GitHub and X, with one-click install and a single place to manage installed skills. The repository is source-available rather than open source.

What It Is

omgskills is a skill discovery and management tool. Skills are reusable instructions, stored as a folder with a SKILL.md file, that tell an AI agent how to do a task. The app lets users search the catalog, read a skill's README, and install it for Claude or Codex. It also scans local skill folders to show what is already installed.

How the Workflow Works

A Node.js scraper discovers candidate skills through GitHub topic searches, code search for SKILL.md files, awesome-list aggregators, and Hacker News and Reddit links. It then parses each SKILL.md frontmatter and builds the library data. The Swift menu-bar app loads bundled or remotely refreshed data, searches it with SQLite FTS5, and fetches READMEs only when a skill's detail view opens. Installing clones the public GitHub repo and symlinks the skill folder into the Claude (/.claude/skills) or Codex (/.codex/skills) skills folder. Users can also paste a GitHub repo URL to install from it.

Web Library, Curation and Agent Access

The site offers browsable skills, creator libraries, curated collections and weekly rankings of installs and stars. A read-only MCP server, published on npm as omgskills-mcp, lets agents search the library. The site also provides an OpenAPI spec, llms.txt and an agent guide.

Trust and Setup

The app requires macOS 14 or later. Public macOS releases are Developer ID signed and notarized. The license permits inspection and auditing but not copying, redistribution or reuse without permission.
