About RepoAlerts MCP Server
RepoAlerts MCP Server is a remote Model Context Protocol server from RepoAlerts (by Alcalumi) that connects AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code to the RepoAlerts directory of rising GitHub repositories. It is free, needs no account or API key, and is read-only. The site says data is updated hourly.
What It Is
The server exposes the RepoAlerts radar to an AI client over Streamable HTTP. Instead of guessing repo or package names, the assistant looks up repos tracked by RepoAlerts and gets each one with its link. The data comes from public GitHub star events, cross-checked with Hacker News and with the accounts behind the stars, so repos fed by fake accounts are left out of the counts.
Tools and Example Questions
The server provides four tools: search_repos (plain-language search with topic, language, licence and size filters), trending_repos (most stars gained today, this week or this month), get_repo (a repo's summary, star curve, alternatives and Hacker News mentions) and find_alternatives (open-source replacements for an app or service). Example prompts include asking what is rising in AI agents today, finding a self-hostable calendar MCP server, or checking a repo before an upgrade.
Setup Path
The same server URL works everywhere with no authentication. The site documents setup for Claude (custom connector), Claude Code (a claude mcp add command), Cursor (deeplink or mcp.json), VS Code Copilot (mcp.json), and ChatGPT (Developer mode app). Clients that only support stdio can bridge it with mcp-remote. The site states a fair-use limit of 120 tool calls per hour per connection and that questions are not stored.
