SkillDocs is a web-based collaborative workspace for writing and reviewing engineering skill documents in markdown, built by Rajiv Ayyangar. It combines real-time multi-user editing with a structured review loop that connects human teammates and AI coding agents like Claude Code. The tool is currently at v0, indicating an early-stage product.

What It Is

SkillDocs is a markdown-first documentation editor designed specifically for engineering "skills" — structured documents that describe how to do something. Teams share a single workspace automatically scoped to their company email domain via Google sign-in, and can collaborate with live cursors, inline comments, and threaded feedback. The standout feature is a built-in MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets AI agents like Claude Code participate in the review loop alongside human collaborators.

How the Agent Loop Works

The MCP server is central to SkillDocs' design. Once registered via a terminal command (no Node install or repo clone required for the hosted version), an AI agent gains access to a set of tools:

• skilldocs_open — push a local skill file up and get its URL
• skilldocs_read — read the document plus comment threads
• skilldocs_diff — see what changed versus the last marked baseline
• skilldocs_comments — retrieve open threads
• skilldocs_reply / skilldocs_resolve — respond to feedback
• skilldocs_pull — pull the collaborated text back to a local file

The intended workflow is: an agent pushes a skill file, the team comments in the browser, and the agent reads back the diff and comments, applies feedback, and replies to threads — all without leaving the editor or the agent's context.

GitHub Integration and Skill Browsing

SkillDocs connects to GitHub repositories to import markdown skill files. Users paste a repo link, and SkillDocs scans the entire repo for markdown skills, then lets the user choose which to bring in. Public repos require no token; private repos use a scoped GitHub personal access token stored server-side. Once imported, skills are browsable and editable within the workspace. The GitHub integration also supports pulling a shipped version as a new baseline for diffing.

Collaboration and Version Control Features

The editor supports multi-cursor editing with keyboard shortcuts, inline commenting with quoted context, and a version history system where snapshots can be marked, browsed, and restored. Documents can be shared with workspace members (Google sign-in required) or made public via link for guest read/comment/edit access. The copy menu lets users export markdown, markdown with comments appended, comments only, or a full diff — formats designed to be fed directly into an LLM or pasted into tools like Notion.

Current Status

SkillDocs is at v0 and appears to be an early-stage, actively developed product by a solo developer (Rajiv Ayyangar, reachable at rajivayyangar@gmail.com). The source code is available on GitHub at rajivayyangar/skilldocs, and the MCP server can also be run locally via an npm package or from a clone of the repository. The product is live and accessible at skilldocs.dev.
