About SmartUI by TestMu AI
SmartUI is the visual testing product from TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest, renamed on January 12, 2026). It captures screenshots of web pages, mobile apps, Figma designs and PDFs and compares them against approved baselines to catch layout, color and font bugs that functional tests miss. A Visual AI engine filters rendering noise so reviewers see only changes a user would notice.
What It Is
SmartUI is a visual regression and visual comparison tool that runs inside existing test suites. The first run sets baseline screenshots; every later run is compared against them. Reviewers approve intended changes as the new baseline or send regressions to Jira or Slack.
How the Visual AI Workflow Works
Visual AI removes anti-aliasing and font rendering noise, then classifies each remaining change as a layout shift, color change, missing element, new element, size change or content change, ranked by severity. Smart Ignore separates content that only moved from genuinely new content and skips ads, timestamps and user-specific areas, with manual ignore regions available. Smart RCA places a plain-language root cause and suggested fix next to each diff.
Inputs and Test Types
SmartUI supports Figma frame comparison against live web and mobile screens, PDF comparison for text, layout, font and graphic differences, layout testing, region selection, exclusion of mobile status bars and footers, and per-branch baselines with merging that follow the Git workflow. SDKs cover Selenium, Playwright, Cypress and Puppeteer on the web and Appium, XCUITest and Espresso for native apps. The CLI handles Storybook components, static URLs and scripted screenshots.
Setup Path
Add a snapshot call to an existing test (for example with the Playwright driver) and run it through the SmartUI CLI with a project token. It runs in CI systems such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, CircleCI and Bitbucket, and reports pull-request checks on GitHub and GitLab. An open-source SmartUI Agent Skill lets coding agents such as Claude Code or Cursor add visual tests from a prompt.
