About xcalidraw
xcalidraw is an open-source, local-first desktop app from xdagiz for managing Excalidraw drawings stored as .excalidraw files on your own machine. It offers library management for drawings and folders, and builds on Excalidraw. Builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux are published on GitHub Releases.
What It Is
xcalidraw is a desktop manager for Excalidraw drawings. You choose the folder where your .excalidraw files live, and the app lets you create, rename, and delete drawings and folders there.
AI Agents Through MCP
When you enable Settings → Agents → Let AI agents edit drawings, xcalidraw runs an MCP server at http://127.0.0.1:29180/mcp for as long as the app is open. The README documents setup for Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode. Agents can list, open, and create drawings, add, change, and delete elements, and use any Excalidraw library. Edits autosave and can be undone with Ctrl+Z, so you can ask an agent to, for example, draw a login flow in a new drawing.
Setup Path
Download a build from GitHub Releases, or run from source. Development requires Node.js 24 and Vite+: clone the repository, run vp install, then vpr dev. The project is MIT licensed.
