Founding Story
Figma was founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace while they were students at Brown University. The founders envisioned creating a design tool that could work entirely in the browser, enabling real-time collaboration. Field was named a Thiel Fellow in 2012, receiving funding to leave college and pursue the company full-time. The company worked on the product for nearly four years before launching its first public version in 2016.
