OpenAI releases 722 mathematics manuscripts for public scrutiny
October 6. OpenAI released 722 AI-generated manuscripts grouped into 372 result families, produced with an unreleased internal frontier model. Related manuscripts can describe alternative approaches or companion results, so the manuscript count is not a count of distinct solved open problems. Research release.
The repository includes many Lean formalizations, but not every result is formalized and the manuscripts are at different verification stages. These are candidate research results for examination, rather than hundreds of settled breakthroughs. The independent Advisory Group on Mathematical AI’s September 29 release guidelines call for scrutiny of correctness, exposition, attribution and the relationship between formal statements and mathematical claims. Those guidelines preceded this release and are not an endorsement of every manuscript. Repository, Advisory guidelines.
For software builders, the relevant parallel is a system generating candidate results followed by separate checks. Passing a formal check still leaves questions about whether the statement captures the intended claim and whether the result is new.
