About Billr
Billr is an invoicing workspace from Voyage Studios LLC that doubles as an MCP server, so coding agents can log work, draft invoices, and send them while a person keeps control in a dashboard. It is available as a hosted service at billr.cc and as a self-hosted, Apache-2.0 licensed application.
What It Is
Bilr covers clients, invoices, estimates, engagements, time tracking, expenses, payments, and reports. The same data can be handled through the web app or by an agent connected over MCP. The server exposes 53 tools across groups such as clients, invoices, estimates, engagements, saved items, time, expenses, payments, task billing, and business links.
How the agent workflow works
An agent is connected to Billr's MCP endpoint, either by OAuth sign-in or by a scoped API key. A typical session calls list_unbilled to find billable time and expenses, create_invoice to build a draft, and get_invoice_link to return it for review. Agents draft by default, and sending is a separate permission.
Key profiles range from read-only to read-and-draft, billing, and full access. Write tools take a request_id so a retried call does not create a duplicate invoice, and agent-created items are labelled in the workspace and audit view.
Task billing and payments
Task billing lets an agent open a task under pricing a person has approved, send heartbeats while it works, and report provider usage with evidence references. A human reviews the result and approves the invoice. Clients can pay from a branded invoice page via Stripe Checkout on the owner's own Stripe account, and the site states a 0% platform fee. Reports include receivables aging, profit and loss, invoiced versus collected, top clients, expenses by category, and time summaries, with CSV export.
Hosted and self-hosted options
The self-hosted version is a Next.js app backed by a Supabase Postgres database, which you run with your own Stripe and email provider accounts. The hosted version runs at billr.cc with a shared MCP endpoint at mcp.billr.cc.
