About buddylist
buddylist is a free desktop app, built by SafaElmali, that presents coding agents as contacts in a classic MSN Messenger-style buddy list. Each project folder becomes a contact, and each conversation is a real agent session that can read the project, run commands and edit files. It supports Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and Hermes, with downloads for macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows x64 and Linux x64.
What It Is
buddylist is a messenger-style front end for terminal coding agents. Claude Code is built in, while Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and Hermes run through the CLIs already installed on your computer, using the same login, settings and MCP servers. Each agent runs on your own account, as it does in a terminal.
Group chats and agent hand-offs
Several agents can join one conversation in the same project folder. Messages go to everyone in turn or all at once, or only to the agents you @mention. Agents can hand work to each other with an @mention, for up to six turns per message by default, and a nudge stops them all. Agents can also pick their own effort levels, with one running a quick effort check before anyone answers.
Control and review
Commands and edits arrive as invitations: Accept, Always allow or Decline. Each contact works in its own git worktree and branch, so agents do not overwrite one another. Contact rows show pull request status tags such as Passed or failing checks, and a Create PR button is in the toolbar. A side pane holds plans, diffs with line comments, an in-window browser, subagent and background task views, and terminals with Setup and Run.
Look and data
A Professional look offers a flat alternative to the MSN style, in day or night. Contacts, settings and chat history stay on your computer. The app sends anonymous usage counts to PostHog and error reports to Sentry, both of which can be turned off in the Tools menu.
