About Cloudroom
Cloudroom is a platform in development from founder David Ondrej for running AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Pi Agent from one desktop app. Agents can run on your own Mac or in their own cloud sandboxes, using your existing model accounts and subscriptions. It is currently in a team preview and invite-only, with a waitlist for access.
What It Is
Cloudroom is a cloud agent platform that manages agent execution and session history rather than inference. You give a task to an agent in the desktop app, which runs it either as a Local thread on your Mac or as a Cloud thread in an isolated sandbox with a copy of your repository and its own Git branch. The harness (the coding agent) is run by Cloudroom, not replaced by it, and calls its model provider directly.
How Threads and Sandboxes Work
A thread is one conversation with one agent, with its own history, settings, and queue. Cloud threads are meant to keep running after the laptop is closed, so you can return to the result and saved conversation; the site says end-to-end reliability is still being validated in the team preview. Teleport moves a running thread between your Mac and the cloud, and side chats open a hidden copy of a thread for side questions. Each agent gets full admin rights inside its own sandbox but no access to other users or sandboxes.
Open Core and Self-Hosting
The Cloudroom core is a Rust runtime released under Apache 2.0 on GitHub. It is designed to run on a Linux VM with PostgreSQL and supported harness credentials, and managed hosting is optional. The site states that a polished self-hosting setup and public release packaging are still being prepared. Sessions and traces are positioned as user-owned data rather than stored only in a vendor service.
Current Status
The about page lists the status as in development, team preview, with the desktop app for macOS and Linux and invite-only access. Codex and Pi adapters exist today, while full support for all three harnesses is still being built and tested.
