CodeMachine is an open-source command-line tool from moazbuilds that captures how you work with AI coding agents as a workflow you can define once and run again. It drives existing AI coding CLIs through structured, multi-step processes, handling execution, context passing, and agent coordination. The latest listed release is v0.8.0, labeled Nova BETA Edition.

What It Is

CodeMachine is an orchestration layer for AI coding CLIs. Instead of guiding an agent by hand through steps such as asking questions, reproducing, planning, implementing, and testing, you encode that process as a workflow and let CodeMachine run it. It uses the headless scripting modes that engines such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor provide, spawning the engines via CLI with the right arguments and flags.

How the Workflow Model Works

Workflows can range from fully interactive to fully autonomous, with anything in between. Different agents can be assigned to different tasks, communicate with each other, and collaborate on decisions. Multiple agents can run in parallel on different parts of a workflow, and workflows can run for hours or days with persistence handled by the tool. Prompts can be centralized and the context each agent sees at each step can be controlled.

Getting Started

Install globally with npm (npm i -g codemachine). The README points to a default workflow called Ali Workflow Builder, which helps create your first workflow interactively.
