About Facade Code
Facade Code is an MIT-licensed fork of VS Code, hosted on GitHub under the owner handle y5ez3g, that runs native agent CLIs such as Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, and Muse Code inside one window. Each feature is a git worktree staffed by a team of agents, while the developer reviews code and steers any agent. The latest listed release is Facade Code 0.1.2, with installers for macOS (Apple silicon), Windows (x64), and Ubuntu (x64).
What It Is
Facade Code is an IDE for coordinating several AI coding agents from different vendors. It keeps the stock VS Code editor, settings, keybindings, and workspace files, and adds a workspace bar that lists every repository and feature in one column. Agents run in their own integrated terminals using the user's existing CLI logins and subscriptions.
How the Agent Team Works
An agent can launch other agents with any vendor CLI or model, either in the current feature or in a new worktree, and assign them tasks. Agents message each other, report results to their caller, and notify the user when a human decision is needed. One agent can read another's terminal, answer prompts, and send keystrokes to unblock it. All orchestration tools are exposed through a standard MCP server.
Two Ways to Work
In Super Engineer mode, the user directs multiple agents directly, opens worktrees, and reviews code as each agent finishes. In Super Team mode, the user hands a feature to a tech lead agent that breaks down tasks, defines interface contracts, starts workers, and reviews their output. Both modes can be mixed in the same window.
Setup Path
Users install and log into the agent CLIs they want, then open a git repository with the facade command or File > Open Folder. An agent is launched from the title bar Agent menu or the Agents: Start Agent command and given a lead prompt. Facade Code installs alongside VS Code and shares no settings or extensions with it. Extensions come from Open VSX, and upstream Copilot and chat are disabled by default.
