Garden Skills

Garden Skills is an open-source MIT-licensed collection of plug-and-play Agent Skills maintained by ConardLi (GitHub: ConardLi). Each skill is a self-contained folder containing a SKILL.md specification, optional reference docs, scripts, and assets that AI coding agents can load on demand. The repository has accumulated over 11,500 GitHub stars and 1,400 forks since its creation in April 2026.

What It Is

Garden Skills provides production-ready behavioral modules — called "Skills" — that extend AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and OpenCode. A Skill is not a plugin in the traditional sense; it is a portable SKILL.md file (YAML frontmatter plus instructions) that tells the agent when to activate and how to behave. The collection currently ships five skills: web-video-presentation, web-design-engineer, gpt-image-2, kb-retriever, and beautiful-article.

The Skills in the Collection

• web-video-presentation — Builds record-ready Vite + React + TypeScript presentations that behave like video production surfaces. Includes 23 built-in themes, a click/keyboard-driven (chapter, step) cursor, hard collaboration checkpoints, and pluggable TTS with two built-in providers (MiniMax mmx-cli and OpenAI TTS) plus ready-to-paste snippets for ElevenLabs, Azure, Google Cloud, and macOS say.
• web-design-engineer — Turns AI-generated web artifacts into polished, deliberate front-end work. Ships a Design Direction Advisor with six differentiated schools and 25 anchored style recipes (Linear, Aesop, Pentagram, Bloomberg, Stripe Press, Mid-Century, and more), each with concrete palette, typography, signature moves, and anti-patterns.
• gpt-image-2 — A focused image-generation skill for GPT Image 2 and OpenAI-compatible image APIs. Supports three runtime modes (Garden local, host-native delegation, and advisor-only prompt writing), 18 visual categories, and 79 structured prompt templates. Includes a public case library of 160+ examples.
• kb-retriever — A local knowledge-base retriever built around layered data_structure.md navigation, a learn-before-process rule for PDF and Excel files, and bounded retrieval (at most 5 search rounds). Supports grep, pdftotext, pdfplumber, and pandas workflows.
• beautiful-article — An editorial harness that converts URLs, PDFs, DOCX, Markdown, plain text, screenshots, and pasted notes into polished, share-ready HTML articles. Ships 10 article types with bundled retention ratios and 11 authoring theme profiles (tufte, press, bayer, bodoni, vignelli, sottsass, and more).

Installation Paths

Garden Skills supports five install methods to fit different workflows:

• npx skills add — Agent-agnostic one-line install via the skills CLI; auto-detects the agent and drops the skill into the right directory.
• Claude Code plugin marketplace — Subscribe to plugin packs (presentation-skills, web-design-skills, knowledge-base-skills, image-generation-skills) directly from Claude Code.
• Pinned .zip from GitHub Releases — Immutable versioned archives with SHA-256 checksums for CI, Dockerfiles, and air-gapped environments.
• Manual copy — Clone the repo and copy the skill folder into the agent's skills directory.
• Git submodule — Vendor the collection into a larger project and pin to a release tag.

Compatibility

The SKILL.md format is portable by design. The repository lists tested compatibility with Claude Code (.claude/skills/), Claude.ai web (Settings → Capabilities → Skills), Cursor (.agents/skills/), Codex CLI (.codex/skills/), Gemini CLI (extension manifest), and OpenCode (.opencode/skills/).

Update: web-design-engineer v1.3.0

The latest release is web-design-engineer-v1.3.0, published on July 12, 2026. The repository was last pushed on the same date. The project is actively maintained, with the release pipeline automatically rewriting download URLs in the README on every release to always advertise the latest immutable version. The beautiful-article skill is the newest addition, currently at v0.1.0.
