About GitHub Spark

GitHub Spark is a web-based notebook interface that brings an interactive, AI-assisted development experience to GitHub. Designed to streamline prototyping, exploration, and debugging, Spark enables developers to run code in multiple languages, visualize data, and interact with Copilot Chat directly in cells—without leaving the GitHub platform.

Each notebook is backed by a secure, containerized workspace. You can install packages, define multiple code blocks, and use markdown to annotate your process. Spark supports running Python, JavaScript, Bash, and more. It integrates Copilot Chat within each cell, so you can ask questions, get code explanations, or generate completions inline.

Originally developed as an experimental project under GitHub Next, Spark officially launched to Copilot Pro users on July 23, 2025.
