About Kubic
Kubic is Konic Labs' open-source coding agent that runs in the terminal with a model the user chooses. It journals every file change so a turn can be reviewed and undone, and it asks for approval before risky actions run. For teams, it adds managed policy, an audit ledger and spend caps. It is released under the MIT license and installs through npm.
What It Is
Kubic is a terminal-based (TUI) agentic coding tool. A user describes a task, the agent reads and edits files and runs commands such as tests, and the user reviews the diff with Ctrl+O. The /undo command restores a turn's changes, with or without git. Kubic requires Node 22.19 or later, and the README says it runs on the Pi agent harness.
Model Choice and Sessions
The README lists Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Bedrock, OpenRouter or a custom endpoint as supported model sources. Sessions are durable, and /tree branches a session from any prompt. A built-in faux provider opens the TUI without an API key, using a model that echoes prompts.
Safety and Control
Risky actions ask for approval in the TUI or through a broker. Users can opt in to a bash sandbox using Seatbelt or bubblewrap to confine commands. Documentation covers a threat model, configuration and security policy.
Team and Enterprise Use
Teams get managed policy, an audit ledger, spend caps and OIDC. Konic positions Kubic as agentic coding under enterprise control, alongside its on-prem LLM offerings.
