About Motion Prompt
Motion Prompt is an MIT-licensed library by Shohei Ohtaki that gives names to the things people ask AI to make. It contains 144 names across six packs, each with a moving sample, a one-line meaning, a motion spec and a copy-ready prompt. It can be installed as an agent skill for Claude Code, Codex and other agents that read Agent Skills.
What It Is
Motion Prompt is a browsable gallery and agent skill that works like a dictionary of creative vocabulary for directing AI. The six packs cover motion-graphics moves, camera moves and transitions, UI component names, landing page and web effects, photo looks, lighting and styles, and a second set of motion-graphics moves, with 24 names each. Every name comes with a moving sample and an example of how to ask for it. The repository also includes prompts for making the same kind of library for another field or language.
How the pick-and-send workflow works
After installing the skill, the user asks the AI to open the motion-prompt library and the gallery opens in the browser. The user presses Pick on any samples, optionally adds a short note such as for the opening title, and presses Send to AI. The agent then uses only the picked items: it fetches their specs and reference code and rebuilds the moves in the user's project, whether that is Canvas, Remotion, CSS, After Effects or prompts for a video-generation model. Without the skill, users can paste text from Copy picks, copy a single prompt, or ask by number, for example #012 and #045.
Reference implementations and data
Each sample is a Canvas 2D function whose picture depends only on time, with no external libraries, so it works for live playback and frame-by-frame video rendering. Packs share a kit of colors, sizes and helper functions. A Node.js 18+ script provides pick, search, list, get, kit, prompt and info commands, reading catalog files such as catalog.json and catalog.tsv from the project site, with a GitHub raw fallback and local caching. The script makes only GET requests, and pick opens a temporary listener on 127.0.0.1.
Make your own
The make-your-own folder contains prompts for translating the videos into another language, building a name library for your own field, and generating a one-page cheat-sheet image. Names are currently in English and Japanese.
