    About Murmell

Murmell is a collaborative browser canvas that lets teams run multiple AI coding agents — Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, OpenCode, and others — simultaneously on a shared cloud machine and repository. Each agent gets its own terminal window on the canvas, and every team member on the shared link sees the same live view as changes land. The product launched with a featured listing on Product Hunt and is actively available as a paid subscription.

    What It Is

Murmell sits at the intersection of multi-agent orchestration and real-time collaborative development. Instead of each developer running a single AI agent in isolation on their own machine, Murmell provisions a cloud machine per project, places all agents in one shared directory, and enforces a file-reservation system so agents cannot overwrite each other's work. The result is a shared "room" where agents and humans coexist on one canvas, watching the same terminal output as it streams.

    How the File-Reservation System Works

The core technical differentiator is what Murmell calls the reservation board. Before any agent writes to a file, it must claim that path. Only one holder is permitted per path at a time; every other agent that requests the same path is refused and must wait. The rule is enforced at the machine level rather than suggested to the model, so it cannot be bypassed by prompt drift. A watcher attributes every write back to the agent that made it, and a colliding write is snapshotted before it lands so nothing is lost.

    Collaboration and Sharing Model

Sharing a Murmell canvas requires only sending a link. Viewers see live cursors, agent names, terminal output, and which window each person is watching — all without needing an account. The homepage states that "watching costs nothing and needs no account." Each person on the link drives their own agents; the canvas stays in sync without replaying or refreshing. Code is persisted to a private GitHub repository created with each project, and the workspace machine is described as disposable while the repository is not.

    Agent Accounts and Cloud Infrastructure

Murmell runs the cloud machines itself and launches the CLI tools users already pay for — Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, OpenCode — using the user's own accounts and API keys. The homepage explicitly states "nothing is resold and no key is stored." Murmell charges for the machine and the collaboration layer, not for model tokens. Every project canvas runs on its own isolated machine with no shared database or decryption key.

    Supported Agents and Integrations

    The canvas currently supports:

    • Claude Code (Anthropic)
    • Codex (OpenAI)
    • Kimi (Moonshot AI)
    • OpenCode
    • Hermes and Cursor (shown in provider logos on the homepage)
    • Gemini (Google)

Adding an agent is described as "adding a tile" — nothing about the canvas changes structurally.

    Current Status

Murmell is live and actively accepting subscribers. The homepage shows a launch offer with a countdown timer and a limited number of spots. The product is featured on Product Hunt (post ID 1213367). The site includes a blog, comparison pages against Claude Code, Codex Cloud, Conductor, and GitHub Copilot, and guides for running multiple agents and sharing sessions. Self-hosting is explicitly not supported — Murmell runs the machines as the core product offering.
