Novamira

Novamira is an open-source WordPress plugin and MCP server built by Ovation S.r.l. (the team behind Dynamic.ooo) that connects AI coding clients directly to a WordPress installation. It runs inside the WordPress PHP process, giving the AI agent real access to the database, filesystem, active plugins, theme structure, and WP-CLI — with no proxy or hosted intermediary. The plugin is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and the core free version is available on GitHub.

What It Is

Novamira is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server packaged as a WordPress plugin. It exposes WordPress internals — PHP execution, database queries, file edits, and WP-CLI commands — as MCP tools that any compatible AI client can call. The AI agent reads the full site setup before writing code, then ships working PHP validated against the real plugins and theme rather than generic snippets. Because the plugin runs on the user's own server, no data passes through Novamira's infrastructure.

How the Direct-Connection Model Works

The architecture is deliberately serverless from Novamira's side. After installing and activating the plugin, the user opens Novamira → Connect in the WordPress admin, copies a setup prompt, and pastes it into their AI client. The agent then writes the MCP configuration file and restarts the session. From that point, the AI client communicates directly with the WordPress server over HTTPS. Supported clients listed on the homepage include Claude Code & Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, Gemini CLI, VS Code + Copilot, Cline, Warp, Continue, OpenCode, Codex, and Antigravity, as well as any other MCP-compatible client.

Security Tradeoffs

The site explicitly scopes Novamira to development and staging environments only. New PHP files are sandboxed and recoverable; database changes, config edits, and direct code execution run live. Every request is authenticated over HTTPS. The docs cover authentication, the sandbox, filesystem restrictions, crash recovery, and recommended setup. The security page notes that users choose the AI model and review every action — Novamira provides the plugin, not the guardrails.

Pro Features: Memory and Builder Expertise

The free tier covers core AI abilities (PHP execution, file operations, database access) with unlimited sites. The Pro tier adds persistent memory and deep expertise for specific page builders and field frameworks. The docs list dedicated Pro abilities for Elementor (minimum v3.6, recommended v4 atomic), Bricks (minimum v2.3), ACF, Meta Box, JetEngine, and others. A Skills system lets users author short Markdown playbooks that the AI follows automatically when the task description matches — authored once, followed by every admin's AI on that install.

The project had 346 stars and 57 forks at the time of data collection. System requirements for Pro are Novamira Free 1.1.1 or higher, WordPress 6.9+, and PHP 8.0+.
