    About OpenHuddle

OpenHuddle is an open-source tool, released under the MIT license, that links the AI coding agents of several people working on one project. Each person keeps their own Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and OpenHuddle connects them through a shared hub so every agent knows what the others are building. Setup is a single npx openhuddle create for the team creator and npx openhuddle join <link> for each teammate.

    What It Is

OpenHuddle is a multiplayer coordination layer for AI coding agents. A hub holds the shared picture: who is online, the team's master prompt, the task board, file claims, huddles and a live feed. On each machine, OpenHuddle plugs into the AI tool through MCP, plus hooks in Claude Code and a git hook that shares commits with the team. Code itself still moves through git, and the project states that the hub never sees your code, only names, the master prompt, tasks, edited file paths, commit messages, questions, answers and huddle discussions.

    How a Project Goes

Teammates write a shared master prompt, submit it for a vote, and lock it as a version. A plan then splits the work into tasks with file areas and dependencies, with a skeleton task first so parts fit together. Each person's agent takes tasks, works on its own branch and posts progress, and merging happens through git as usual.

Discussion happens in huddles of four kinds: brainstorm, design, review and standup. Teammates' agents add ideas, back or push back with reasons, and the person who started the huddle closes it with a decision. Users can speak to their agent in plain language, for example asking what a teammate is working on or asking to take a task.

Where It Fits and What Works Where

In Claude Code, news arrives automatically before each prompt and after each edit, the agent answers waiting teammates before handing back, and editing a file claims it for 30 minutes, pausing to ask if a teammate holds it. In Codex and Cursor, team tools and shared commits work, but users ask "what's new?" to get updates. A dashboard (npx openhuddle dash) and terminal watcher show activity live.

    Hosting and Setup

Teams use a free public hub by default, which the README says has no uptime guarantee. The same package can run your own hub via npx openhuddle hub, a provisioning script for Ubuntu, or Docker. It requires Node.js 20 or newer, a git repository, and Claude Code, Codex or Cursor; running a hub needs Node 22.13 or newer. The latest release listed is v0.4.1, a security release.
