About PlainlyKit Temporary Email
PlainlyKit Temporary Email is a hosted HTTP API from Plainly that lets scripts and test servers create a disposable inbox, check for incoming messages, read them, and delete the inbox. The documentation says it is the same API that powers the Temporary email web tool, and that it needs no signup, credit card, or developer API key.
What It Is
The service is a receive-only disposable email API. A client creates an inbox with a POST request and gets back an ID, an address, a private token, and creation and expiry timestamps. Test emails are sent to that address, and the client then reads them over HTTPS using the token as a bearer credential.
How the Workflow Runs
The flow has four steps: create an inbox, list messages, read a message, and delete the inbox.
- The inbox accepts an optional domain. A GET request to /config returns the available domains, and an empty creation request picks a random one.
- The message list comes back newest first. Each entry includes sender, subject, preview, received time, size, and attachment count.
- Reading a single message returns plain text, with link destinations from HTML buttons kept as URLs, plus attachment filenames and MIME types. Appending /raw downloads the original .eml file.
- You can delete a single message or the whole inbox, and deleting an inbox revokes access immediately.
Limits and Privacy Notes
Inboxes expire 24 hours after creation. Each inbox accepts up to 100 messages over its lifetime, at most 2 MiB each. Inbox creation is rate limited per IP. The API does not send, reply, forward, or support webhooks. Requests should be made server-to-server over HTTPS, because cross-origin browser requests are not supported. The documentation also states there is no uptime guarantee, advises using it for non-sensitive testing only, and warns that some senders block disposable addresses.
