About Talon
Talon is a self-hosted agentic AI harness from The Falconry that runs long-lived agents across chat platforms, the terminal, and a Flutter companion app. It supports pluggable backends (Claude Agent SDK, Kilo, OpenCode, Codex, Antigravity, OpenAI Agents) and exposes tools through MCP. The repository is open source under the Apache License 2.0.
What It Is
Talon is a harness that runs as a persistent daemon rather than a one-shot terminal wrapper. One agent core is exposed through multiple frontends: Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Microsoft Teams, a terminal chat mode, and a native HTTP + SSE bridge used by the companion app. You choose the backend and frontends in ~/.talon/config.json, and each chat keeps its own session.
Agent Behavior and Memory
Background agents give the harness autonomy: Heartbeat advances goals and proactively messages when something matters, and Dream consolidates memory and writes a diary. Goals are persistent multi-day objectives, triggers are self-authored watcher scripts, and skills are SKILL.md workflow bundles the agent can author and reuse. Long-term memory is available through MemPalace (vector search plus knowledge graph) or the mem0 backend.
Plugins and Tooling
MCP tools cover messaging, media, history, search, web fetch, cron jobs, triggers, goals and file system access. A hot-reloadable plugin system installs from npm, git or local paths, with built-in GitHub, MemPalace, Playwright and Brave Search plugins. A task table (talon ps / talon kill), an event bus, and a virtual filesystem namespace expose live agent state.
Setup Path
Install via npm, Homebrew, .deb/.rpm packages, standalone binaries, or Docker, then run talon setup and talon start. Node.js 24+ or Bun 1.3+ is required for source installs, and each backend has its own authentication prerequisites. The companion app connects over a token-authenticated bridge, with HTTPS and certificate pinning for off-loopback binds.
