About Yao Agents
Yao Agents is a self-hosted application from Infinite Wisdom Software that lets users manage AI agents and workspaces across every device they own. Tasks are tracked on a board and reachable from desktop, mobile, browser, or API. It is distributed as a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux, with an Android beta, and the source is published on GitHub.
What It Is
Yao Agents is an agent management and execution platform. Agents run on dedicated machines you connect, working in parallel, while one app manages the whole fleet. The docs state that every machine added is more capacity, and that the user's own computer stays untouched while agents work on remote devices.
How the workflow works
Each workspace is isolated, and work accumulates into documents that become a knowledge base. Agents can read what they need from any connected node. Users describe what they need in a conversation, which becomes a task on a board. Continued use is said to grow the task into an agent purpose-built for that work. Task agents can be connected to other apps or shared with others.
Engine and extensibility
The features page describes a single-binary engine (Yao Engine) with a JSON/YAML DSL, a built-in V8 TypeScript runtime, a sandbox for isolated code execution, native MCP support, and built-in GraphRAG search. It lists 30+ built-in assistants and extension through Hooks, MCP, Processes, and Skills, and says it is compatible with the Claude and OpenClaw ecosystem. Agents integrate via standard APIs with SSE and WebSocket support.
Licensing and deployment
The code uses a modified Apache License 2.0 with additional commercial conditions covering branding, certificate verification, and organization size. The enterprise page describes on-premise deployment, audit logs, and dedicated support.
