Founding Story
Prince and Holloway began Project Honey Pot in 2004 to identify how spammers harvested email addresses. Users repeatedly asked them to stop the malicious activity rather than merely track it. In 2009, Prince and Harvard Business School classmate Michelle Zatlyn developed the business plan for a cloud firewall while Holloway built the prototype; Cloudflare won Harvard's business-plan competition in April 2009, closed its Series A in November 2009, and launched publicly at TechCrunch Disrupt in September 2010.
