Products & Services
AI-powered code editor and integrated development environment (IDE) forked from VS Code with deep AI integration for writing, reading, reviewing, and maintaining code. Features agentic coding capabilities, codebase understanding, and access to frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and xAI.
AI-powered code review agent integrated with GitHub that identifies issues and provides one-click fixes. Helps catch bugs, perform code reviews, and debug complex issues.
Command-line interface for running AI agents in any terminal or script. Enables developers to use Cursor's AI capabilities directly from the command line.
Agentic coding model that delegates coding tasks and provides deep codebase understanding through codebase embeddings. Can generate 2,000-line PRs from 50 lines of pseudo code and handle multi-file edits.
Market Position
Cursor positions itself as the leading AI-native code editor, competing primarily with GitHub Copilot (Microsoft), Replit, Windsurf, and other AI coding assistants. Key differentiators include: deep integration with VS Code, multi-file editing capabilities, access to multiple frontier AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI), proprietary models for autocomplete and agentic coding, codebase understanding through embeddings, and the fastest growth trajectory of any SaaS company (reaching $1B ARR in 24 months). Cursor emphasizes superior user experience, context awareness, and flexibility in model selection. The company is described as building 'vibe coding' tools that make programming more intuitive and less about digging through documentation.

Founding Story
The company was incorporated in 2022 by four MIT students: Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Aman Sanger, and Arvid Lunnemark. They met at MIT where they were obsessed with AI and spent hours debating its future. They started with a vision to create a code editor that eliminates bugs and allows developers to generate large PRs from minimal pseudo code, aiming to make source code 'melt away.' The team graduated from OpenAI's accelerator program in 2023 and launched Cursor in March 2023. They chose to incorporate as Anysphere, Inc. using Stripe Atlas.
