About Agentaps
Agentaps is an open-source desktop workspace for coding agents built by Domen Kožar and released under the Apache-2.0 license. It provides a unified interface for running and managing coding harnesses locally or over SSH using the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), and lets users securely continue sessions from a phone browser without a mobile app. The project is built with Rust and available for Linux, macOS (Apple Silicon), and Windows.
What It Is
Agentaps is a desktop application that acts as a universal GUI for coding harnesses — AI coding agents that implement the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). Rather than interacting with each agent through its own interface, Agentaps consolidates projects, sessions, and conversations into one workspace. It supports ACP v1 and v2 agents and can discover compatible agents like Codex, Claude adapters, Gemini CLI (gemini --acp), and OpenCode (opencode acp). Users can also enter any custom ACP command.
How the Workflow Works
- Local projects: Open Agentaps, select New, choose a folder, pick an agent, and start chatting. Sessions, chat history, and queued prompts are saved automatically.
- SSH projects: Enter a path like
ssh://user@server.example/home/user/projectto run the agent on a remote server using your existing SSH configuration and keys. - Diff review: Select Diff in a conversation to inspect staged, unstaged, and untracked changes against HEAD in unified or split view.
- Composer shortcuts:
Entersends a prompt,Ctrl+Enterinserts a newline. Type/for agent commands,@to reference a project file, or start with!to ask the agent to run a shell command. - Context management: Fork a reply to start a new session with the visible conversation as context, or reset an agent's context from the desktop header.
Web Connect: Browser Access Without a Mobile App
Web Connect is a companion feature that pairs a phone or any browser with the running desktop app using a QR code. The connection uses Iroh for encrypted peer-to-peer communication — no mobile app is required. Once paired, users can read conversations, send prompts, stop turns, and answer permission requests from the browser. Agent processes and project files remain on the desktop. Connections can be protected with a phone passkey or a passphrase of at least 15 characters, and linked browsers can be revoked from the desktop pairing view. The desktop stores its Iroh identity and browser credentials through a SecretSpec provider.
Architecture and Technology
Agentaps is written in Rust and uses GPUI for its native UI. It can be installed from pre-built packages (DEB, AppImage, DMG, Windows installer) or built from source via cargo install agentaps. The development environment is managed with devenv. Session data is stored locally at $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/agentaps/config.json. The Web Connect UI is a static site built separately in the web/ directory.
Update: v0.3.1
The latest release is v0.3.1, published on September 29, 2026. The project was created on September 24, 2026, making it a very recently launched tool. The GitHub repository is hosted under domenkozar/agentaps and the project is actively maintained with no open issues at the time of indexing. Current known limitations include Web Connect showing only the latest 100 messages per session, no diff review in the browser, and no support yet for URL-based elicitation, ACP client file system/terminal methods, or built-in authentication.
