About Attu
Attu is a management tool for Milvus vector databases from Zilliz. It lets users connect to multiple Milvus clusters, browse collections, run vector searches, manage backups, monitor health, and chat with an AI agent about their data. It is available as a Docker/Kubernetes web app, a standalone Linux server package, or a desktop app for macOS, Linux and Windows. The latest release listed is v3.0.1.
What It Is
Attu is a graphical workbench for administering Milvus and Zilliz Cloud. A single deployment can hold several connections, each with its own workspace, monitoring, agent sessions and preferences, so dev, staging and production clusters can be managed side by side. Version 3.0 supports Zilliz Cloud and open-source Milvus 2.6.0+ and 3.x; older Milvus versions need earlier Attu releases.
Data and Search Workflows
The data explorer browses databases and collections, edits data inline, and imports or exports CSV, JSON and Parquet. Vector search is interactive, with configurable embedding providers such as OpenAI, Cohere, Jina and VoyageAI. Attu 3.0 adds External Collections over Parquet and Iceberg data, snapshots, TEXT fields, schema evolution, query and search aggregations, MinHash deduplication, analyzers and file resources. Some of these require Milvus 3.x.
AI Agent and Operations
The built-in agent offers 50+ tools for creating collections, running queries, managing users and analyzing performance through natural language. It supports OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, Google Gemini, OpenRouter and custom endpoints. Operational features include a Prometheus metrics dashboard, cluster topology view, full and incremental backups to S3, MinIO, GCS or Azure Blob, a REST API playground, RBAC management, resource groups, slow request analysis, a task queue and audit logs.
Deployment and Security
Server deployments enable local login by default, with a first-run admin setup. Attu supports one-way and mutual TLS to Milvus, SSRF protection for outbound embedding and LLM requests with an allowlist option, and pre-configuration of a default connection via environment variables. Data is stored in a SQLite database.
Licensing
Attu was Apache 2.0 through v2.5.12. From v2.6.0 it is proprietary: official binaries may be used, but the source code is not open for viewing, modification or redistribution.
