JetBrains Air

JetBrains Air is an agent-oriented development product from JetBrains. The product page describes it as one system for building software with agents, working with agents such as Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, Copilot and OpenCode, plus any others connected via ACP. The IDE plugin is listed as an alpha release, and Air Teams is offered through early access.

What It Is

Air is an agentic development environment that lets developers run coding agents and review their work. According to JetBrains, it can be used in JetBrains IDEs, in a browser, or from the command line, and a mobile surface is shown as coming soon. Rather than replacing the agents developers already use, Air connects them in one workspace.

How it works for developers

JetBrains says Air finds compatible agents on a developer's machine and connects them with a click, and more can be added from an agent registry. Developers can keep several projects open, each with its own sessions, and track unread updates, changed files and outgoing commits. Diffs open directly from an agent session, can be validated with IDE tools, and line comments can be left for the agent to act on.

The page says users can bring an existing provider subscription, API keys or a base URL, or use JetBrains AI with credits billed at public API rates. Subscriptions can be switched mid-session. Junie is described as now part of JetBrains Air.

Teams and automation

Air Teams offers shared projects that run in dedicated cloud environments. JetBrains says teams can set VM size, control internet access, manage variables and secrets, and connect MCP servers once for everyone. Automations can be triggered by events such as merges to main, pull requests, new issues or pushed commits. For organizations, Air Governance is described as covering permissions for models and agents, spend limits for teams and individuals, bring-your-own-key support for providers such as Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI and Anthropic, and usage analytics. Air Context is described as using semantic indexing so agents start with an understanding of the project instead of scanning the whole codebase.

Current Status

JetBrains states that cloud runs are available for some customers in JetBrains IDEs and the browser, with gradual rollout to remaining customers over the coming months. Air Gateway brings terminal agents like Claude Code and Codex into Air.
