About Kanzo
Kanzo is an open-source kanban board that runs in your browser and doubles as an MCP server, so people and coding agents work from the same task list. It is distributed as a single small program for macOS and Linux, with the board stored in a local folder and optionally synced through a private git repository. The latest listed release is v0.2.1.
What It Is
Kanzo combines a local kanban web board with a Model Context Protocol server. You run kanzo to start the board at localhost:4242, and agents connect through kanzo mcp or the board's HTTP MCP endpoint. The data lives in a single folder (~/kanzo by default), with the board in a SQLite database and settings in a TOML config file. It needs no account and no separate server.
How Agents Work With the Board
Agents such as Claude Code and Codex are registered with an MCP add command. You can then ask an agent to take the next task from Kanzo. The agent moves the card to doing and comments as it works. It identifies the right project from the git remote of the repo it works in, and you can link more repos to a project. Tasks accept pasted or dropped images, and agents receive the file path. An optional Backlog column keeps tasks off-limits to agents until you move them to todo.
Sync and Deployment
To share a board across machines, you point Kanzo at a private git repo, and kanzo sync commits and pulls or pushes the board. If both sides changed, Kanzo asks which to keep. Sync is meant for switching between machines. For several machines using agents at once, you can run one board that listens on the network and point agents at its /mcp URL. The board has no logins, so this is only for trusted networks. The CLI can also export the board as Markdown or JSON, install a login service, and self-update.
Footprint
The README reports a 4.1 MB program with SQLite included, about 4.5 MB of idle memory and a 2 ms start, measured on an Apple M4. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
