About LLM Usage Widget
LLM Usage Widget is an open-source desktop utility from Aleph Void LLC that displays Claude and Codex plan usage in the places where system status icons live. It reuses the logins that Claude Code and the Codex CLI already store locally, so no configuration is needed. Installers are provided for Debian/Ubuntu, macOS and Windows.
What It Is
The widget is a tray, top-bar, menu-bar or taskbar indicator that shows session and weekly usage windows, model-scoped limits and the time until each resets. A label such as Claude 99% Codex 13% appears on the panel, and clicking it opens a dropdown listing every limit with its percentage and reset countdown, a refresh action, links to each provider's usage page, and Quit. Bars and icons turn green, amber or red depending on usage. If a refresh fails, the last numbers are kept and marked stale. A floating always-on-top window (--widget) is available for desktops without a tray.
Providers and Credentials
Claude and Codex usage is read from the same internal endpoints the official CLIs use, which the README notes are undocumented and may change. Credentials are only read, never modified, and each token goes only to the provider that issued it. For Claude Code or Codex running on cloud platforms, the widget can instead add sections for Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI and Azure OpenAI / Microsoft Foundry. These show month-to-date spend, token counts for the day and, where configured, budget percentages. They use AWS, Google Application Default, or Azure CLI credentials respectively.
Cutoff Quotas and Settings Sync
Each provider can have a cutoff percentage, and for providers with usage credits a credit cutoff. When a refresh finds usage at or over the cutoff, the widget stops the running CLI processes for that provider, then clears the cutoff. Cutoffs are tied to the signed-in account. On macOS and Windows, settings sync between computers through iCloud Drive and OneDrive. A daily update check against GitHub releases can be turned off in config.
Setup Path
Log in once to each CLI, then install using a packaged installer (.deb, macOS .dmg, Windows setup .exe) or the install scripts from a checkout. It can also run from source with Python. Each installer starts the app and registers it to start at login. On Ubuntu with GNOME, the AppIndicator extension must be enabled, and the README documents a known issue with GNOME 50 and a manual reload command. A --once option prints usage in the terminal.
