About Poki
Poki is an open-source project by Joseph Zhou and contributors that lets AI agents use a real iPhone the way a person does. It consists of Poki MCP, a local MCP server for iPhone control, and Poki Agent, a standalone agent that can be driven from iMessage or a terminal. The project is released under AGPL-3.0, and the latest listed release is v0.1.1.
What It Is
Poki runs a controller on your Mac that connects to your iPhone, with no jailbreak and no external hardware required. Tasks arrive either through an MCP client such as Claude Code or Codex, or through Poki Agent channels. Poki then operates real iOS apps and system interfaces using native touch events and returns the task result.
How Tasks Run
Poki Agent accepts a plain-language task, for example adding a shopping list to Reminders, and reports progress through planning, running and completed phases. The site's demos show it working across apps such as Maps, WeChat, Reminders, Notes, and Calendar. In the train-booking demo it stops before payment. Poki Agent signs in to a model account, while MCP users can connect their own MCP client and subscription instead.
Self-Learning Routes
Poki says verified runs compile into routes, so similar tasks take a shorter path on repeat. The README describes Poki Agent as remembering past tasks and running them faster when repeated.
Setup Path and Limits
Setup is done by cloning the repository, running the setup script, and starting the server. A prebuilt macOS arm64 package is also offered. It requires macOS 15 or later, full Xcode, Node.js 24+, and ffmpeg, plus Rust when building from source. Physical iPhone support has been verified only on iPhones using the Chinese interface, and physical devices support portrait orientation only. The project notes that it controls a real device, so messages or payments requested will actually be carried out, and that screen contents are sent to the configured model service. It also warns that automating third-party apps may violate their terms of service. A native iOS app and Telegram integration are listed as coming soon.
