Sageling is a free Mac application that runs an AI assistant entirely on your device, with no data sent to external servers during ordinary work. Built by Kirill Klimuk, it targets professionals who handle sensitive material — therapists, teachers, lawyers, and others — and anyone who wants AI assistance without cloud dependencies or usage caps.

What It Is

Sageling is a local-inference AI assistant for Apple Silicon Macs. It uses Qwen 3.5, a 9-billion-parameter open-weight model compressed to run alongside other apps, to help users transcribe audio, draft documents, compare files, research the web, and automate repetitive tasks — all described in plain language rather than code. The model runs on the Mac's GPU, processes files locally, and requires no subscription or account to use.

How It Works On-Device

Because the model runs on the Mac itself, Sageling can operate offline after the initial ~8 GB model download. It reads and writes files, runs programs already installed on the Mac, and can search the web when a job requires it. A "skills" system packages instructions for specific recurring jobs — such as a particular report format or review checklist — which users select and fill in with a short brief. Memories are stored as plain-text files on disk that users can read, edit, or delete at any time.

Privacy and Compliance Positioning

The site explicitly addresses regulated industries:

• HIPAA: Sageling states no Business Associate Agreement is needed because it never accesses protected health information; data stays on the Mac.
• FERPA: Student work processed locally is not disclosed to Sageling or any third party.
• Attorney-client privilege: No third-party disclosure risk because the model runs locally and sends nothing to an outside AI provider.
• GDPR: Sageling describes itself as not acting as a data processor because personal data never leaves the user's Mac.

The only data that leaves the Mac by default is web search queries (routed through a relay that the site says does not log queries or pass on IP addresses), model/app update downloads, and optional name/email provided at setup.
