About UI-TARS Desktop
UI-TARS Desktop is an open-source framework from ByteDance for creating GUI applications powered by AI agents. It extends the TARS (Task-Oriented Agent Reasoning System) platform into a desktop environment, enabling developers to build interactive software through natural language instructions.
The system orchestrates multiple specialized agents—such as planners, code executors, and UI renderers—that collaborate to generate, run, and refine desktop apps on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Developers can describe functionality in plain language, and TARS coordinates the agents to design interfaces, write backend logic, and integrate workflows automatically.
According to the June 2025 beta announcement, UI-TARS includes sandboxed execution, modular agent roles, real-time preview of generated apps, and a plugin system for extending capabilities. It is aimed at both researchers exploring agentic workflows and developers who want to prototype or ship desktop applications quickly.
