About HProxy MCP
HProxy MCP is a hosted MCP server from HProxy that exposes three free tools to AI assistants: a live free proxy list, a proxy checker and an IP lookup. It needs no API key or account, and the same tools are also available over a keyless HTTP API and through the hproxy command-line tool.
What It Is
HProxy MCP is a remote MCP server running at mcp.hproxy.com/mcp, so there is nothing to install or update. Once the address is added to an assistant, the assistant can call the tools by name. The tools sit on top of the same infrastructure as HProxy's free proxy pool and online checker.
The three tools are:
- proxy_list returns live free proxies filtered by country, protocol and anonymity.
- proxy_check runs a live test on a proxy and reports whether it is alive, its protocols, anonymity, latency and location, for up to 25 proxies per call.
- ip_lookup returns country, city, timezone, ASN and the network behind a public address, for up to 50 addresses per call.
How You Use It
Add the MCP address to Claude, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or any client that speaks remote MCP over HTTP. A Claude Code plugin and a Gemini CLI extension are published on GitHub, and the server is listed in the official MCP Registry as com.hproxy/mcp. Example prompts include asking for twenty elite German SOCKS5 proxies and checking which are alive, or asking who runs the network behind an IP.
HTTP API and Terminal
The tools are also keyless HTTP endpoints with CORS open, so browser agents can call them. Responses can be JSON, and the proxy list also supports plain ip:port text. The hproxy command ships as a single file for macOS, Linux and Windows on x64 and ARM, with list, check and ip commands, plus hproxy mcp to serve the same tools locally. Per-IP rate limits apply, and exceeding them returns a 429 with a Retry-After header, which the MCP server turns into a plain message. HProxy also publishes llms.txt files with the documentation as markdown for models.
Fit and Limits
HProxy states that public free proxies are shared and unpredictable, so the free pool suits testing and one-off checks, while workloads that must survive blocking belong on paid proxies. The free pool is also published on GitHub under the MIT license.
