Sloppie

Sloppie is an open-source development environment built for Linux and the GNOME desktop, designed to help developers manage multiple parallel AI coding agent tasks from a single dashboard. Written in around 5,000 lines of Python and licensed under GPL-3.0, it is intentionally small and hackable — the author explicitly encourages users to clone and customize it rather than install it as-is.

What It Is

Sloppie is a native GTK 4 application that acts as an orchestration layer for agentic coding workflows. Each "task" in the dashboard is an independent copy of a repository on a dedicated branch, with three real terminal sessions, a git diff viewer, and a code-review-style comment mechanism. Architecture and Dependencies

Sloppie requires Git, Python ≥ 3.10, PyGObject ≥ 3.42, GTK 4.x, GtkSourceView 5.x, and VTE ≥ 0.76. On Debian/Ubuntu, all dependencies are installable via apt. Installation is done via make. The notification system works through the terminal bell: when a coding agent (such as Claude Code) finishes its turn, it rings the bell, Sloppie detects it, and fires a desktop notification — with an example hook script provided for Claude Code's notification system.

Audience and Philosophy

Sloppie is explicitly described as "hard-coded to its author's preferences and not generic or configurable." The intended use pattern is to clone the repository, use a coding agent to customize fonts, colors, editor settings, and behavior to personal taste, and run that customized clone. There are no accounts, no telemetry, no cloud dependency, and no subscription — the project is designed to remain fully under the user's control, with a codebase small enough for an agent to rework entirely.
